Effective Content Writing – Step by step guide for naive writers

Content is the KING. For effective content writing the first thing you need to keep in mind is to check whether your content is delivering up the need of readers what they are searching for. The written content must be well organized, concise, appealing and simple. As marketers – optimized and effective content writing is must.

Effective Content Writing vs SEO
Search Engine Optimization aka SEO is one of the phrase every marketer come across nearly every day. You spend a lot of time to learn SEO and to apply it to make your content visible to search engines.

Hang On! do you remember the basic? You write content for the people or for the machines?

The ultimate goal of Search engines is to provide quality search results that reflect genuine and informative content. Search engines want to deliver answers that fit the context of what it is that searchers seek. In case, your article is search engine optimized but is not effectively written, the final output will be increase in bounce rate of your website i.e. readers who enter the site and “bounce” (leave the site) rather than continue viewing other pages within the same site. I suggest it as poor practise.

If you are new to content writing and you are still struggling to write high quality posts, we suggest you follow these steps for effective content writing.

Step #1.  Think and come ucontent writing ideasp with lots of ideas

Its always hard to come up with a new idea and possibly it could take more time than you expect to generate one – but once you are up  it is usually easier to come up with many more ideas.

Instead of searching for ideas or learning from others, the best way is to sit at your most creative time of the day and start thinking and brainstorming and come up with a bunch of ideas together. Pin down every thought  even if it seems unworkable, with my experience a not-quite-right idea turns out to be a great one.

Step #2. Select the best idea and start with a plan

Select the best idea from the bunch you created in Step 1. Now, before starting to write your post, spend few minutes to create a plan.

Many of the blog post turn out with ready made structure like “Step by Step”, “Top 5 things”, “10 ways to” etc. whereas other posts are a bit complex, but the key principle is to bring together the key points and get them in the correct order.

Step #3.  Respect the reader’s time and appreciate their engagementeffective content writing

Your readers are busy, and most of them would rather do a quick scan of the article first before they decide whether it’s worth reading. Make it easy for your readers to understand the what and how of your article. Make it interesting enough for them to want to read all of it. Do not give it all on the first half of your post; add an air of mystery, leave a question, excite them and they will want for more, invite them and generate engagement and discussion with people who both agree and disagree with you.

Step #4. Effective titles are must for effective content writing

Your post title represents the summary of your entire written content. It must be able to tell your readers what your entire article is about. Creating a title using 8-10 words incorporating 70 characters is a good practise. Also, don’t write anything in your title which you are not delivering in your article.

Step #5. Use Media – Images and Video and make your post attractive.

In case it is hard for you to write but you are good with media, use your talent. Images, videos, infographs are great ways to provide content to your article. There is more, take a picture upload it to sites like flickr and use it in your articles which in turn will also enable you getting a backlink from Flickr (PR 9) using your anchor text. This way you are not only providing quality content but also optimizing your website with effective content writing.

Step #6. Recheck your content, edit and proof-read.

So, you are all done with an effective content written and you believe it is ready to be published. Here is a tip, leave the article in draft state, set it aside for some time may be hours before editing. In this way you can see it afresh and you can easily spot extra-long sentences or poor choice of words used with the article. Never mix editing(where you check for quality of article and perhaps cut and add whole new paragraph)  and proof-reading(usually done for checking grammar and punctuation mistakes).

If you apply these steps in action, you’ll find that your content writing is much effective and you are now able to create better articles in lesser time.
